Hagen Aquaclear Powerheads & Water PumpsHagen Aquaclear Powerheads & Water Pumps
Hagen's famous Aquaclear powerheads have been around in one form or another for more than twenty years. With adjustable output and directiionally divertable outlets, the Aquaclear powerheads are so popular because they are so flexible. The smaller model 20 is ideal for a micro reef or quarantine setup, while the larger models are superb running undergravel filters or on circulation duty in the modern reef aquarium.

Using powerheads to create realistic current is an essential for marine aquarium success.

Powerheads were originally developed to improve the typically poor throughput of under gravel filters. The huge increase in interest in the modern reef aquarium has changed the primary use of powerheads, particularly those with a decently high output.

Most marine fish do not thrive in the absence of moderate to strong current. Without expending the effort to swim against current patterns, marine fish lose their muscle tone and the action of their lymphatic system is greatly reduced. Fish so out of condition have shorter lives and are far more prone to infection.

In addition, great circulation makes sure that dirt and debris is not allowed to accumulate anywhere in the aquarium. Within a reef setting, as every reef keeper knows, it is not possble for most corals to thrive without the benefit of vigorous current provision.

Corals produce waste matter which is very toxic to themselves and the other corals around them. They rely completely on water current to carry their waste away. Algae and bacteria constantly attack corals and as a primary defence, many corals incorporate a layer of mucus which is constantly shed. Again, excellent levels of current are required to perform this function.

Don't forget that powerheads are a fantastic contributor to the overall health and realistic appearance of your marine setup. Nothing beats a rippling surface current and the constant reaction of your fish and corals to the current moving them in a natural way.

We promise you will always be delighted with the result when you increse the quantity and complexity of current in your setup by utilising more powerheads.
