A great Marine Salt is an absolute fundamental of successful marine keeping. We cannot emphasise enough that money spent here will pay you back again and again.

Seawater is complicated stuff. Formulated over billions of years and covering two thirds of the earths surface, seawater plays host to far more life than is found on all dry land environments put together.

It follows then that in order to keep your marine system healthy, a synthetic sea salt formulation that mimics the real thing closely is an essential. All three sea salt brands we stock contain every trace element that is found in seawater anywhere in the world.

In addition, all good synthetic sea salt brands contain an alkalinity complex consisting of borates, carbonates and bicarbonates in the correct proportions. These for the alkali reserve of the aquarium and are responsible for the maintenance of your marine setup's high pH value.

It's not enough for a synthetic sea salt mix to contain the correct ingredients, complex though these may appear. Looking a bit harder, we must also take into account that the trace elements and minerals must be bio-available; that is, available in such a form that the marine creatures in your setup can easily assimilate them.

In pracitice the sea salt manufacturers are forced to add the various elements and minerals in the form of solid solutions, or crystals. These are very pure, easily assimilatable compounds, yet they are inevitably expensive and add greatly to the cost of the finished product.

Conversly, they are also a sign of quality and commitment to your long term product satisfaction. It's frequently worth paying a little extra to get great sea salt and making your chances of marine success that bit higher.
