Every fluorescent tube requires a controller to power it. Modern T8 controllers incorporate effective, splash proof end caps for the tubes, as well as a good quality on/off switch. Choose a controller by matching it's wattage to that of the fluorescent tube.

Super bright T5 lighting has really taken off in the last couple of years and this has resulted in the price of T5 controllers tumbling to much lower levels. We stock the latest double T5 electronic controllers at the keenest prices and with super low delivery costs, making your lighting upgrade much more affordble than ever before.

Fluorescent lighting controllers last much longer if looked after.

All modern fluorescent controllers produce some waste heat. This is especially true of the all electronic T5 units. Most problems are due to overheating, causing components to burn out.

Place your fluorescent lighting controller in a location where air can circulate around it, carrying heat away. An aquarium cabinet is not always the best location for your controller and placing it outside, at the back of a cabinet will often produce substantially better operational longevity.

Many T5 controllers are purchased by marine keepers wishing to light their reef systems. However, over time the T5 end caps attached to the fluorescent controller become encrusted with salt, allowing arcing to occur across the end pins of the T5 tube destroying both the tube and controller.

Regular maintenance can easily prevent this effect. Once per month, remove all traces of salt from end caps and T5 tubes. Before re-assembling, coat the locking ring of the end cap with a thin of petroleum jelly, to help repel the salt spray. If done regularly this will prevent any substantial salt accumulation and accompanying problems.

T8 controllers frequently include a small white fluorescent starter on the front surface of the controller body. The starter is easily removed with a small anticlockwise twist and may easlily be removed.

Older starters reduce the life of flurorescent tubes substantially and a great tip when investing in new fluoresent tubes for your setup is to spend a little more and get a new starter or two at the same time.

Your new tubes will start more promptly and will last that bit longer as well.
