Vitamins and TreatmentsVitamins and Treatments
Fish and invertebrates when kept in captivity often have more complex care needs than is at first apparent. It's diffictult to duplicate the wide range of food items typically consumed by a fish in it's natural environment, so vitamin supplements can be a big help in maintaining nutritional health. Sadly, despite the fishkeepers best efforts, things can and do go wrong. Effective treatments are the first line of defence when fish develop disese symptoms. We have 25 years experience in the trade and can offer many tried and tested solutions to fish health issues. Do call our experienced technical support staff if you need help and advice on any fishkeeping topic.

A great, varied feeding regime is essential to fish keeping success.

Although great water conditions are a strong contributor to fish health, it is simply not enough to have a clean aquarium and put in a pinch of flake food every day - at least not if you wish to view the full glory of tropical or marine fish at their very best.

There is no substitute for a varied diet, comprising numerous food items. Each will contribute proteins, carbohydrates and fats to your fishes diet but, less obviously, will also include vital micronutrients such as trace elements, amino acids, minerals and vitamins.

You get out of fish keeping what you put in and well fed fish are immediately obvious. Their colour is better, their size is above average for the variety and their general health and resistance to disease will be far higher than fish fed on only one or two staple items.

Despite your very best efforts, some fish have nutritional needs which are not easily fulfilled in captivity. These fish may eat well, but not display their full colour nor grow to the expected size. This is often due to a vitamin deffiency.

In these circumstances it's often impossible to determine which vitamin is lacking, so a good solution is to apply a complete vitamin additive, designed for fish use, directly to dried food items before they are fed to the aquarium.

Fish keepers are often surprised at the great results which are possible from regular vitamin supplemement use and since a little goes a long way with these products, it's certainly not an expensive option.

If you wish to supplement your fishes diet, or to add new items to an established feeding regime, please don't be afraid to experiment. Do bear in mind that fish will often reject new food items for no good reason.

Witholding all food a day or two wll soon increase the acceptance of new foods and very soon your fish will find themselves thriving on a new and varied diet.
