Lighting TubesLighting Tubes
Inexpensive and efficient, fluorescent tubes remain the most popular option for lighting marine systems of most, practical, sizes. Actinic blue tubes produce that wonderful 'under the sea' effect and high output T5 tubes produce light levels idea for most corals or for lighting deep aquariums. We stock a full range from all the best manufacturers.
Lighting ControllersLighting Controllers
All fluorescent tubes, whether T8 or T5, need an electronic controller to start them and provide correct current and voltage levels. We have huge experience in this area and carry the latest, best value for money units in stock and ready to go. Look out especially for our bargain priced double T5 controllers - a real money saver.
T5 LuminairesT5 Luminaires
For those marine set ups without an enclosed top section or canopy a sit on, or suspended, over tank luminaire is a good looking and practical option to house high output T5 tubes. Our T5 luminaires include excellent built in reflectors which really increase the amount of focussed light reaching the aquarium.
TMC Aqua Ray LED Lighting SystemsTMC Aqua Ray LED Lighting Systems
The first of a new generation of lighting products, the Aquaray system from Tropical Marine Centre provides high output aquarium lighting with very, very low energy usage. In addition, the concentrated lightbeam produced by high output solid state LEDs means that your aquarium will have that gorgeous "rippled" lighting effect, so beloved of metal halide users.
Metal Hallide LightingMetal Hallide Lighting
Still the highest output marine lighting available, Metal halide will enable you to light the deepest set ups and also keep the most light demanding corals. Choose a luminaire that suits the length of your setup and, of course, it's depth. Do bare in mind that you will not usually require any covering for your aquarium where Metal halide is used - off setting the cost of the luminaire itself.

Few aquariums seem to come with great lighting as standard.

Most manufacturers choose the lighting they provide on the basis of cost, rather than availability, so it's well worth upgrading the tubes or upgrading still further to T5 luminaire or a superb metal halide unit.

Great lighting will serve to make the very best of your aquarium setup and inhabitants, whilst discouraging algae and bacteria blooms. Lighting should act in concert with great filtration, aeration and maintenance to produce superb overall effect in your aquarium.

Don't be afraid to experiment with your lighting setup and please do contact us for advice regarding lighting. Include some details of the effect you are aiming to acheive. We are delighted to put our 25 years experience at your disposal.

In use, all types of aquarium lighting deteriorate over time. Both T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes have an effective life of six months only, whilst metal halide bulbs generally last around a year.

Don't forget that it really is worth fine tuning your lighting setup, chosen to complement your fish and plants or to re-create a deep water, under the sea environment.
